Born in Belgrade in January 1970, Branka Katić is one of the few actors from our region to enjoy success both here and abroad, working extensively in theatre, TV and film.

After making her film debut at the age of 14, she went on to graduate from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and was soon making a big impression in her first film roles, winning numerous awards in Serbia for performances which remain celebrated to this day. International acclaim for her part in Emir Kusturica’s BLACK CAT WHITE CAT led to offers of roles abroad.

She’s worked with a succession of renowned directors, the likes of Peter Kosminsky (WARRIORS, BBC), Michael Radford (TEN MINUTES - THE CELLO), Anthony Minghella (BREAKING AND ENTERING), Michael Mann (PUBLIC ENEMIES) and Sally Potter (THE ROADS NOT TAKEN). She’s appeared on screen with, amongst others, Javier Bardem, Johnny Depp, Cristian Bale, Tim Spall, Romain Duris, Jason Schwartzman and Sarah Lancashire.

For HBO Branka appeared in ENTOURAGE, BORED TO DEATH and in four seasons of BIG LOVE.  She also played a lead role in all three seasons of NOVINE, directed by Dalibor Matanić. Novine was the first series from the region to be picked up by Netflix, where it was shown as THE PAPER.

More recently she’s worked with Pjer Zalica on his film PRAZNIK RADA. And she has just won the award for Best Actress at the Rijeka Theatre Festival for her performance as Blanche DeBois in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. Her interpretation of this iconic role was praised as brave and nuanced.
