Maja Križnik
Director
Maja Križnik, born in 1986, graduated in Comparative Literature and Philosophy, before enrolling in the Academy of Theater, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana; graduating in Film and Television Directing. Her graduation film LITTLE FISH (2016) was awarded the Vesna Award for Best Student Film at the 19th Festival of Slovenian Film and the Prešeren Student Award, along with her TV drama ZOO (2016). With the production company December, she is developing her first feature film UNCOMFORTABLE BEINGS (ZVERINE), which received production support from the Slovenian Film Center. Production starts in the spring of 2025. She started developing the project in 2019 at the screenwriting workshop Scenarnica and continued development at the First Films First workshop. The project received the development RE-ACT award in Trieste. In 2023, it was presented at the Black Nights Festival in Tallinn, where it was accepted to the co-production market. Since 2016, she has been working as a director and screenwriter. She has written several scripts for animated films that are in various stages of production and post-production. Among others, she was a co-screenwriter on the animated project OF UNWANTED THINGS: YESTERDAY'S NEWSPAPER, a Slovenian-Czech-Slovak-French co-production which also received the Euroimages award for the best co-production. She occasionally leads screenwriting workshops for children and youth.
