Maja Izetbegović

Actress

Maja Izetbegović is a Bosnian actress living and working in Sarajevo. A graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo in 2008, she has built a distinguished career in both theatre and film across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region. Izetbegović is known for her roles in feature films such as OUR EVERYDAY LIFE, SON, EXCURSION, and HOTEL PULA, as well as in numerous short films. Notably, EXCURSION premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where it received a Special Mention. She has also appeared in television series such as I KNOW YOUR SOUL, created by renowned director, Oscar nominee, and EFA Award winner Jasmila Žbanić, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. She also landed a role in FRUST, directed by Academy Award winner Danis Tanović. Currently, two feature films in which she plays leading roles are in post-production: 20 METERS by renowned Slovenian director Damjan Kozole, and MONUMENT, a Canadian-Bosnian co-production directed by Bojan Bodružić. A member of Chamber Theatre 55, Maja has portrayed a wide array of roles. She has performed in over 40 theatre productions, including NORA, ANTIGONE, DISGRACED, THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE, IVANOV, DOUBT, A RESPECTABLE WEDDING, ELIJAH’S CHAIR, SCHINDLER’S LIFT, and many others. She has received numerous international awards for her performances in both theatre and film.
