Romina Tonković

Actress

Romina Tonković was born on August 13, 1994, in Zagreb, Croatia. She began her education at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka, where she earned a BA in Acting and Media under the mentorship of Rade Šerbedžija. She continued her studies at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, where she obtained her MA degree. Throughout her training, she specialized in various acting techniques, including those of Lee Strasberg, Michael Chekhov, Jerzy Grotowski, and Tadashi Suzuki, as well as voice work and dialect training. She also attended several improvisation workshops at the prestigious Juilliard School, and in 2022 she completed a film program at Kinoklub. Romina has performed extensively in theatre. At the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc, she appeared in productions such as NOWHERE FROM NOWHERE, WHEN WE FALL IN LOVE, ROMANCE OF THREE LOVES, FAREWELLS, FAHRENHEIT 451, and TWELFTH NIGHT. She has been a regular performer at Ulysses Theatre for five consecutive summers, appearing in WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN, BERT CABARET, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. For her work, she has received several Best Actress awards at international film festivals, including the Florence Film Awards and the Los Angeles International Film Awards. In film, she has played leading roles in Croatian productions such as DRAŽEN, WOMEN, FOOLS AND A FEW GOOD QUEERS, I WILL DO IT ALONE, FISHING AND FISHERMEN’S CONVERSATIONS, and F20, as well as in international projects including CANARY BLACK, INFINITY POOL, DAY BY DAY, and GUARDIAN ANGEL. Since 2023, she spends her summer in Japan, where she continued her training under the guidance of Tadashi Suzuki. She is currently developing her own film project, supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC).
